Germaine Krull - Études de nu, Librarie des Arts Décoratifs, 1930, Paris

Hardcover, half cloth, 24 loose sheets, one folded text page (4 pages, with a text by Jean Cocteau and Germaine Krull).

„In 1930 she edited the portfolio "Étude de nu" with 24 photo-sketches of nudes in the presentation of which  she tried  to explain what the photography meant for her and who is the true photographer, although the purpose of her words were simply to clarify why she did nudes. Such clarification that in a current artist would be though of as unnecessary, seems reasonable in the grain of Krull’s own theoretical speech, where she presents the photographer as the “witness of their era.. that is to say the first third of the 20th Century, an era socially convulsed and transformative in which the nude, both grouped with esthetics as well as separated from ethics(her works in this field would be deemed “satire of lesbian pornography”) do not seem to bear witness to any political or sociological reality. Although truly if they had done so: they would be that of the identity of the contemporary woman.“ (artizar.es)
