Alexey Nikishin - May 9, Self published, 2016, Moscow
Hardcover, essay in English, Russian, German, French, Nederlands, Chinese, Japanese. Printrun 30 copies, design by Mike Loskov.
"May 9" is dedicated to the 70-th anniversary of the Victory Day. The moving impulse was a an old wartime letter.
I didn't want to make a conventional Victory-Day-Photobook with the stills of old veterans, tears, tanks, parades and all these touching moments you'd expect to see concerning the occasion. I decided to make another kind of book dedicated to Peace. It speaks on a world where peace became possible with the ending of the World War II. On everyday people not heroes; on the fact that happiness and peace are a commodity at every corner of the Earth. It came to be a very personal story on revelations which i was unable to share with my grandfather, war veteran.
