Wiesje Peels - Mimus, Komma / d’jonge hond, 2014, Den Haag

Hardcover, edition of 1000. Design by Steffen Maas.
"Mimus, after the first roman clown, after expression and after the latin word for actor. I have been fascinated by artists from childhood. My dad ran a little show called "Theatro Piccolini", in which he played magician enrico magnetico. I started photographing circus performers from family circuses in 2001. After conducting documentary research, I ask the artists to pose for me in their "decor"; to play a part projecting my mood. I direct them but also allow for the unexpected. When on tour I get inspired, along with my own moods, by situations and sights near the circus. In the book you will find this kind of inspiration under "pantomimus,. The circus performers act as archetypes. They express themselves about the relationship between people by their vulnerability. The circus animals are not creatures but recognisable figures of how we can view ourselves. "Mimus", is available in 4 different covers." (from the publisher)
